Our awesome craftsmen-builders have decided to put in a mantle for us as a Christmas present! This is a photo of it before it is permanently installed. The log is a engleman spruce . . . the same kind of log used for the walls of the cabin itself.
All of the interior trim in the cabin is now complete including all baseboards. This is a photo showing baseboards and trim around the stairway to the loft and a little of the hallway (on the left).
All the appliances arrived and were installed today! That includes this refrigerator plus an oven/range and a stackable washer/dryer. Now we just need to stock the fridge with Izze soda and we'll be all set.
Most everything is done at the cabin. We do still have punch-list items to complete (baseboards and some trim), and we have installed temporary wooden countertops since we are having so much trouble finding good stone. But the electricity and water are are on and it is basically ready to stay there. Work for the summer is wrapping up and the cleaners are coming to scrub everything tomorrow.
This is a shot of the side door entry area in the evening. Remaining work includes bathroom tile (starts today!), countertops for the kitchen and bath, sanding and sealing the floors, and baseboards.
The kitchen and bathroom cabinets (made from Juniper) have been installed and look GREAT. Now we are just waiting on countertops and bathroom tile, which have been giving us difficulty . . . not easy to find good stone quarried in the U.S. these days! Looks like we have the tile figured out and it should be installed starting this week. And we have a line on stone countertops, but the schedule is a little murkier on that.
Took a long road trip to Home Green Home in Ithaca, NY to look at and lie on natural/organic mattresses for the cabin . . . loved them! Mattresses will arrive at the cabin in August.
The loft railing is being assembled this week. We also ordered the refrigerator and laundry unit, and our sleeper sofa arrived at a Boulder warehouse where it will wait for the cabin to be ready.
A nice shot of the cabin in snow this winter, taken by one of the guys working on the interior. Stairs to the loft and loft railing are going in now, and kitchen and bath cabinets have been ordered.
Here is a look down the hallway from the guest room towards the great room. Ran out of boards with 80sqft left, but more is on the way and the entire cabin floor should be done soon.
Here is a good shot showing the installation of the floor boards in the Great Room near the side door. Note the complication introduced by the solid wood post and also notice the underlying plywood and radiant heat tubes that they have to be careful not to puncture when nailing down the boards!
Wall paneling is pretty much done, and installation of the floorboards started this week. Larch wood floorboards of varying width are being installed over the radiant floor heat tubes and plywood matrix.
This is a photo of the guest bedroom floor, which was the first to be finished.
