Interior Paneling Work Continues

Cypress wood paneling is being installed on the interior frame walls, dormer frames, and other non-log wall areas inside the cabin. This is a shot of the wall near the front door . . . you can see the jacket closet in the middle.

Here is a shot showing what the solar PV panels look like on the cabin.

Solar Panels

Fourteen 225 Watt solar photo-voltaic (PV) panels were installed by Namaste Solar on the south-facing roof of the cabin this week. Final hookup, inspection and meter installation are still to come in the next few weeks. These panels should generate enough electricity throughout the year to cover the power needs for the times we are at the cabin.

Door Handles

The door hardware finally arrived, so we now have handles and locks on all the cabin doors. This particular picture is of the exterior utility room door.

Exterior Complete

Except for a few details the exterior of the cabin was completed in August. I have been a little slow to get photos taken in August onto this blog, but this one pretty much sums it up.

There is a good amount of interior work remaining including interior wall siding and installation of floor boards, plus we need to put in the kitchen and bathroom and final loft stairs and railing.

Things are a bit on hold right now . . . waiting on a new infusion of cash . . . probably in January. We hope to finish the cabin next summer.

First Fire

We lit our first fire in the newly completed fireplace on Monday, July 26th. Nice to see smoke from the cabin chimney for the first time.

Little Kid

I feel (and look) like a little kid sitting with my feet hanging over the edge of the loft in the cabin. Soon the particle board interior walls will be covered with beautiful cypress paneling.

Radiant Floor

The radiant floor plumbing was installed last week throughout the main floor of the cabin. This is a shot looking down at part of the great room floor. Soon it will be covered over with reclaimed heart pine floor boards.

Fireplace Stonework Complete

The fireplace stonework was completed this week.

For me a cabin is not really complete without a fireplace, so this is a big milestone!

Fireplace Work Continues

The masons are working on their last project . . . the cabin fireplace stonework. We are hoping to have a little fireplace party when we arrive in Colorado next week.

Loft Floor Complete

The Loft floorboard installation is complete.

Chimney Capped

Here is a view of the chimney cap from the peak of the cabin roof. Looks like a stormy day in the background!

Interior Stonework

The interior stone "knee-wall" goes below the logs all around the interior of the cabin. It's the same stone and design as the exterior stonework.

Loft Floor

The loft floorboards are being installed this week. They are about 2 inches thick pine and look great from above and below, where they will be visible between the ceiling beams.

Chimney Stone and Wood Siding

The exterior chimney stonework in complete, and the wood siding is started and should be complete this week as well. This photo shows the east elevation of the cabin.

The exterior is almost done!

Frame Wall Insulation

The frame wall insulation is in. The frame walls are now ready for wood paneling. This is a picture in the loft of a dormer wall with insulation (white).

Shingles and Flashing

Copper flashing and shingles are finishing off the roof work this week.

Electrical

Interior framing and electrical wiring is being finished up this week at the cabin. We are also in the process of working out the details of the kitchen and bathroom cabinet and fixture designs.

Plumbing

Rough-in plumbing has been completed for the cabin including the laundry room, bathroom and kitchen. This is a photo of the sink/toilet side of the bathroom.

Front Door

Here is the new cabin front door (and the people who made it). We changed our minds on the design after the first front door was completed (oops). . . but we like this one a lot. It should be installed in the next couple of weeks.

April Visit

It's been about a year since ground was broken on the cabin . . . we stopped by before a business conference to check out the progress. See me in the window?

Standoffs

The roof is fully sealed and standoffs for the solar panels have been installed on the south-facing side. Shingles will come next after the stone chimney is completed.

Roof Insulation

Yes, that is insulation, not snow! Plywood (and tar paper and shingles) will go on next to complete the roof.

Wired Roof

Electrical wiring in the roof is completed, and we are ready for inspection, closeout and blow-in insulation this week.

West Elevation

All windows and doors are in . . . but the glass doors on the west side have been replaced with temporary doors during construction activity.

2x8 Roof Framing

2x8's are being used to frame over the ceiling for the exterior roof. The space between will be filled within blown insulation.

Interior Door View

Here is an interior view looking from the area of the kitchen towards the cabin side door.

Porch Construction

Construction of the covered wooden porch on the north side of the cabin is underway. Window and door installation will also be completed this week.

Loft Windows Installed

Not only is the ceiling complete, but the loft windows are all installed.

The ceiling is complete and window installation continues.

The windows and door are on-site, and the first windows have been installed on the west elevation.
